Women In Technology: Julie Kinslow

In our fourth installment of our Women in Technology blog series, we are excited to highlight Julie Kinslow and her role here at Standley Systems. Julie Kinslow is a valuable asset to Team Standley, who brings a wealth of knowledge and an exemplary work ethic to her role. As one of the Document Service Managers overseeing our scanning team at Standley Systems, Julie's management style is deeply people-centric, showcasing her profound understanding of the dynamics within her team. She excels in helping individuals learn and grow, fostering an environment of mutual support and continuous improvement. Beyond her professional life, Julie has been married to her husband for 46 years and is the proud mother of three children, grandmother to seven, and great-grandmother to one. She also loves all things craft.

Julie's journey to Standley Systems is both inspiring and a displays her dedication and adaptability. She initially served as the Print Shop Manager at Norman Regional Hospital under Xerox. When Standley Systems won the bid to take over the hospital's print services, Julie's commitment to her role was evident. She approached the Director of Materials Management at the hospital, expressing her desire to remain part of the team. This request was communicated to Standley Systems' management, and following a brief interview, Julie quickly became an integral part of Team Standley.

Her drive and capability soon led to an invitation to take on a Project Management position. When Julie transitioned into the Project Manager role, she came equipped with an associate's degree in business. Recognizing the need to stay current, she proactively took a refresher course in Excel and Office 365, ensuring she had the technical skills necessary for her new role and responsibilities. Because of her hard work she has continued to excel within Standley and is now the Document Service Manager.

As the Document Services Manager Julie manages a team who helps our clients digitize their files and documents. This includes conducting one-on-one meetings with employees, running L10 meetings, generating daily and weekly reports, and engaging in goal-oriented discussions with her team. Given that most of the scanning department operates at offsite locations, Julie often steps in to assist in file preparation, demonstrating her hands-on leadership style.

Julie’s favorite aspect of her job is the daily interaction with her team. She takes pride in the collaborative approach and positive work environment they've created. Hitting daily productivity and scanning goals can become challenging targets to hit but Julie and her team thrive under   the pressure to perform and use it as a learning experience when they fall short.

To stay ahead of the constantly evolving business and technology landscape, Julie is committed to lifelong learning. She digs into learning whenever she encounters an unfamiliar topic and commits to quarterly reviews to assess her team’s performance, morale, and motivation. She fosters an attitude of continuous improvement by surveying her team and holding focus groups to discuss where they can improve.

Looking ahead, Julie envisions herself enjoying retirement and spending quality time with her family in five years. She reflects on the influence of other women in her career, particularly Michelle, a manager at the Norman Regional Warehouse, who set an example with her effective delegation skills—a trait Julie admires and strives to emulate.

Julie's personal management philosophy is rooted in a strong work ethic, self-motivation, and organization. She firmly believes in treating people with the same respect she wishes to receive, a principle that has undoubtedly contributed to her success.

For women aspiring to work in tech, Julie offers this sage advice: stand up for yourself, refuse to take no for an answer, and be prepared to work hard for what you want. Her journey and insights serve as a powerful testament to the impact of perseverance and dedication in achieving professional fulfillment.

Julie’s expertise and contributions to Team Standley are truly remarkable. Keep following our stories as we continue to spotlight the exceptional women who are pivotal in driving innovation and success at Team Standley and within the broader technology sector.
