Women In Technology: Tisha Edge
By: Rachel Redemer on December 5, 2024 Updated: October 1, 2024
In the fifth installment of our Women in Technology blog series, we are highlighting our Order Processing Specialist, Tisha Edge. In this role, Tisha has demonstrated an exceptional ability to adapt and motivate her team. She has been with Standley Systems for three years and brought a wealth of knowledge from her twenty-five years in the purchasing world. When she’s not at work, Tisha is a devoted family woman. She cherishes her time with her four children and takes immense pride in being a Granny to eight wonderful grandchildren.
While Tisha has been in purchasing for many years, her career didn't start there. Tisha's career launched as a supervisor managing a team in packaging. In that role an opportunity arose in the purchasing department. Despite her initial reservations about her qualifications, her employer recognized her potential and encouraged her to take on the role. She embraced the challenge and has thrived in the purchasing field ever since.
For about eighteen years, Tisha dedicated herself to her job, commuting daily from Fort Cobb to Oklahoma City. During these drives, she often noticed Standley Systems vehicles and wondered about the company. Fate intervened when she saw a job opening at Standley Systems on Indeed. Excited by the thought of working closer to home, she applied and was quickly welcomed into the Standley family.
When Tish first joined the team, she faced a learning curve. Unfamiliar with terms like finisher, bridge, and punch unit, she immersed herself in learning about the products and the company’s operations. Her ability to adapt and her eagerness to learn quickly made her an integral part of the warehouse team. Tisha fondly describes the warehouse team as one big family, united by a shared commitment to helping each other. She says the Chickasha warehouse’s motto is “If you’re needed anywhere in here you hang up your jacket and go.”
For Tisha, this means taking on a variety of tasks. From stocking shelves and loading trucks to taking on any challenge that arises at any time. She firmly believes that no job is too big or too small which sums up Tisha’s spirit of teamwork and dedication.
Tisha’s job responsibilities are multifaceted. She orders equipment for the Contracts and IT Contracts team orders, ensuring that all numbers and information is correct. She also handles reimbursement for defective equipment, expedites orders, and manages office supply orders. Beyond her official duties, Tisha plays a crucial role in fostering a positive team environment. She ensures that everyone feels appreciated and valued, celebrating birthdays and getting to know her coworkers on a personal level.
When asked about her sources of inspiration, Tisha says her mother is her biggest motivator. She describes her mother as being a pillar of strength, a hard worker, organized, and intelligent. Tisha says she strives to embody these qualities, even if she admits to not being as organized as her mother was.
The most rewarding part of Tisha’s job is the thrill of sourcing new equipment efficiently and at a good price. She takes pride in her ability to negotiate with vendors and secure the best deals for Standley Systems. She joked that she is more meticulous with company funds than her own. She also enjoys the satisfaction of seeing the equipment she ordered is in use and has been successfully invoiced.
Tisha says that the hardest part of her job is when she has to step outside of her comfort zone. She says that switching up her routine and adapting to new situations can be challenging but worth it if it helps others.
Looking ahead, Tisha envisions herself continuing to grow with Standley Systems. She is committed to learning and hopes to remain a valuable and helpful team member.
Tisha stays current with changes in technology and processes by maintaining strong relationships with her vendors and paying close attention to internal communications. She emphasizes the importance of staying informed and being proactive in seeking help when needed.
Her advice to women who are interested in roles like order processing and technology is to remain open to learning and listening. She stresses the importance of observing and learning form others to gain as much knowledge as possible. Everyone looks at things different so we can learn a lot from observing one another.
Tisha’s adaptability, eagerness to learn, and unwavering dedication to her team make her a vital asset to Team Standley. Our team is thankful for Tisha not only for the work she does in purchasing but for the culture and collaborative spirit she helps create. Stay tuned as we continue to celebrate the remarkable women at Standley Systems who are driving progress within the company and the technology industry at large.
