With the new year comes a fresh batch of resolutions—some we keep, and some vanish faster than an unread software update. But at Standley Systems, we’re committed to sticking with our tech resolutions, ensuring our systems stay secure, efficient, and ahead of the curve.
We sat down with our Director of Internal IT, John Brown, to get his take on security, staying ahead of tech trends, and his team's game plan for 2025. Spoiler alert: It’s going to be a BIG year!
Big Plans for a Big Year
John shared that Standley’s internal IT team has a packed agenda for the year ahead. “We’ll be upgrading and replacing a lot of what we have in place to stay up to date with technology,” he said. Staying current has always been a priority, and 2025 will be no exception—it’s all about keeping systems secure and efficient.
So, how does Standley Systems stay ahead of the curve? By staying plugged into the tech world—keeping up with industry news, attending conferences, and staying active in the community. In the ever-evolving world of technology, relevance is key! Whether it’s adapting to emerging cybersecurity threats or implementing the latest IT best practices, John’s team is always one step ahead.
Tech That Powers a Better Customer Experience
Technology isn’t just about flashy gadgets—it plays a major role in customer experience. At Standley Systems, we ensure our Help Desk has top-tier tools to stay innovative and efficient. And because teamwork makes the IT dream work, strong communication between the Help Desk and Internal IT teams keeps everything running smoothly.
“Everything we do is designed to make the user experience better,” John emphasized. “When our team has the right tools and knowledge, we can provide faster, more effective support to our customers.” Investing in technology isn’t just about having the latest software; it’s about creating a seamless, secure, and reliable experience for everyone who relies on Standley Systems.
Overcoming IT Challenges
One of the biggest challenges John’s team tackled in 2024? Becoming the single approval point for all technology initiatives and changes within the company. Naturally, big changes come with growing pains, but the team handled it by working closely with managers and emphasizing financial responsibility—knowing what we’re spending, why, and where. Transparency is key!
“It’s not just about adopting new technology,” John explained. “It’s about making smart, strategic choices that align with our business goals.” By streamlining decision-making and ensuring every IT investment is carefully considered, Standley Systems continues to strengthen its infrastructure while maintaining efficiency with a well-rounded tech stack.
Security Starts on Day One
At Standley Systems, cybersecurity training isn’t an afterthought—it starts on day one. Our first line of defense is Team Standley and that’s why John meets with every new Sales employee to ensure they understand the importance of using security tools properly to protect company data. And this year, he’s planning on expanding that training to all new hires because security is everyone’s responsibility!
“Cybersecurity isn’t just an IT issue; it’s a company-wide priority,” John said. “We’re making sure every employee understands the role they play in keeping our systems safe.”
This proactive approach helps prevent common security breaches and ensures that employees are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate an increasingly digital workplace.
John’s 2025 Tech Goals
When asked to define a successful 2025, John had two goals:
Personally, John’s committing to attending more tech conferences, staying on top of industry news, and earning his Fortigate certifications—a perfect complement to the equipment his team is rolling out.
“It’s important to stay curious and keep learning,” John said. “The more we grow as a team, the better we can support the company.”
John’s Advice for IT Managers
John’s words of wisdom for IT teams setting resolutions? “Stay extra aware of your cybersecurity during busy times and holidays.” Hackers love taking advantage of out-of-office messages and unattended systems, so don’t let your guard down!
So, if you’re still looking for a tech resolution that’s worth sticking to, take a page from John’s playbook: Stay secure, stay informed, and keep leveling up. Sounds like a winning strategy for 2025!
